On January 12, 1920, Florence Nightingale Shore - a nurse and god-daughter of Florence Nightingale - is found brutally beaten on a train, dying four days later due to the extent of her injuries. Driven to distraction by the lack of progress and the failure of the police to catch the killer, Florence's longtime friend Mabel Rogers begins her own investigation and makes an appeal to Agatha Christie for help.
