The first visit of the week is Nateby Inn in Cumbria, where landlady Gaynor Walker is ready with a warm welcome. A trip to Gaynor's local brewery turns out to be a barrel of laughs when one guest beats another in a cask-rolling competition, before a broken cooker creates chaos in the kitchen the following morning

The owners visit the Outfields Farm Bed and Breakfast in Ravensden, Bedfordshire, on their second stay, where proprietors Graham and Julia Ashley treat them to an afternoon of indoor sky-diving before hosting a dinner filled with surprises. The guests enjoy a good night's sleep, but one of the owners is expecting hassle at breakfast time

The third visit of the week is to At Home in Chiswick, west London, where artist Bob Osbourne appears to take a rather laid-back approach to running his B&B. On arrival, guests are pleasantly surprised by their first impressions of the communal living space-come-mini art gallery - but it's not long before they are dishing the dirt

The competition draws to a close at the Ammonite Lodge guesthouse in Chard, Somerset, where owners Andrew and Clare Ashmore hope to excite their guests with a game of skittles. During the final dinner of the week, the competitors discuss their first impressions of each other, and Bob and Julia share some amusing observations with the group

The B&B owners confront their critics face to face, and the winners are announced. Nateby Inn host Gaynor takes issue with Graham and Julia's reduced marks for cobwebs. The conversation becomes heated when Outfields Farm's owners tackle Gaynor's complaints in return, and Georgie jumps to their defence. Artist Bob Osborne has a long list of grievances he wants to address, and Julia is left cringing when her previous comments rebound on her

Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer revisit past house-hunters, beginning with globe-trotting Matt Rushworth, who was looking forward to settling down near his family in Windsor, Berkshire. They then catch up with Sheffield couple Justin and Deborah, who were seeking a bigger home, but had very different opinions on how to tackle the property to make room for their sports gear

Doug is unsettled to learn Carrie buys his clothes from an outsize shop, and when she tells him he should lose some weight, a bitter battle of wills ensues. Meanwhile, Arthur wages his own war against neighbourhood thugs with the aid of a limbless mannequin

Carrie returns to college, but discovers she does not have enough time to work and study. Meanwhile, Doug worries that an educated woman like her will not be interested in a blue-collar man like him. Ricki Lake guest stars

Doug decides the family needs a new car, but Carrie urges him not to buy one, afraid an impending strike at his workplace may put a crimp in their finances. Unfortunately, he yields to temptation and splashes out on an expensive off-roader

The double-team version of the popular dinner-party challenge arrives in Worthing and Portsmouth, where three more couples put their culinary skills to the test. First up are pensioner duo Bill and Hilary, who surprise everyone with their liberal attitudes. Next to host are children's entertainer Doug and his ever-tolerant partner Patsy, who combine fine dining with hippy sensibilities, and finally, 22-year-old hip-hop enthusiasts Micaela and Sanchez prepare a menu with a Jamaican-Filipino twist. With all the evenings complete, the contestants convene one more time to determine the winners

The competition begins at B&B at No 3 in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire. After check-in, Noreen and Chloe give the bedding the brush-off, and Ian and Beverley think the hosts have lost their bottle when it comes to the in-room refreshment. A historical afternoon out at a nearby battlefield earns the hosts some royal points, but over drinks, a breakfast bombshell really scrambles the guests' expectations

The week's final visit is to Hastings House in St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex, where hosts Ian and Bev Jarvie are determined to provide an upmarket experience for their guests. Noreen and Chloe, however, are left feeling decidedly rough by the towels in their room

The rivals reunite to discuss their feedback and there are plenty of grievances, not least Mac and Jo wanting to get to the bottom of Ian and Bev's dressing gown comment. Room service, dusty rooms and coarse towels are all debated before the payments are revealed and the winning B&B is crowned

Next, property developers Kelly and Jon cook a simple menu in the brand new kitchen of their newly-refurbished massive Georgian mansion, which wows their guests. And Emma and Gavin host a Cornish evening of food and fun. However, it remains to be seen who will walk away with the £1,000 cash prize
