Asian Network celebrates M.I.A. - a British rapper, singer and songwriter of Sri Lankan Tamil origin. Born in London in 1975, she began her music career in the early 2000s and quickly gained a following with her unique blend of hip-hop, electronic, and Asian music. Some of her most popular songs include Paper Planes, Bad Girls and Galang. M.I.A. is known for her politically charged lyrics and her activism on issues such as immigration and human rights. She has won numerous awards for her music, including two Grammy nominations, and has been recognised as one of the most influential and innovative artists of her generation.
