Bob Mortimer has harboured a childhood dream to catch a salmon, so together with friend Paul Whitehouse, he sets off for the River Tay in Scotland full of hope and excitement. A ghillie guides them up the intimidating river in a boat and they fish using various methods to catch the elusive fish. They stay in the heart of the Highlands, where Bob cooks Paul a traditional Scottish breakfast and enjoy a swift round of golf before resuming their fishing. The duo also reflect on luck and fate and the part it has played in their lives and later assess whether the trip has lived up to their expectations

Sitting side by side on the banks of the Upper Tamar Lakes, Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer fish for the predatory perch. Bob notices that Paul has far more superior seating, which causes momentary tension between the pair. The tables are turned when Bob reveals this week's accommodation - leaving Paul almost speechless. The following day the duo brave the open sea and have a very surprising catch. They celebrate in the only way possible in the south-west of England - it's not particularly heart-healthy but it proves to be very tasty
