Two years ago, Michelle and Rod Malone set about adapting their home after daughter Maddie contracted a rare brain disease that left her struggling to walk and talk. However, unforeseen problems with the project left them living in just a couple of rooms in an unsafe house. Nick Knowles meets Hereford couple Colin and Clare Gibbons, whose life together fell apart in 2012 when their eldest son Christopher was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, one of the most severe forms of the condition. Despite having a lovely house, it needs adapting to Christopher's needs for both now and in the future, so the DIY SOS team - bolstered by dozens of local tradespeople - descend on the property to add a two-storey extension, with designer Julia Kendell on hand to ensure they stick to her vision while adding a few finishing touches of her own
