Pulling a gun on his long-term comrade, it looks like he's set for a long prison stretch - until a dramatic turn of events sees the Scouse former copper fighting for life. Meanwhile, as Polly continues to suffer abuse at the hands of local youths, a journalist offers her a helping hand - but is he genuinely interested in her wellbeing or is she laying herself open yet again?

The relief are stunned by the discovery of Des Taviner's badly beaten body, and when attempts to revive him fail, the station becomes a murder scene. MIT waste no time in pointing the finger of suspicion at Sheelagh, who locked him in a cell with an unstable criminal - did she knowingly put her ex-lover's life in danger as an act of revenge? Meanwhile, PC and undercover journalist Andrea is on the hunt for gossip about her new colleagues, and Polly grows disheartened with her civilian role

Part one of two. With her professionalism called into question following Des's death, Sheelagh begins to doubt her own abilities and decides to hand in her notice, while undercover journalist Andrea saves the life of a black community leader from a knife-wielding attacker - and he is so grateful he proves only too happy to spill the beans on the Sun Hill squad. Part two of two. Acting on information from a vengeful Phil, Dennis Weaver tries to ensure Nick doesn't reveal what he knows about the drive-by shooting - by having him kidnapped and forcibly injected with a massive dose of heroin. On a slightly less dramatic note, Polly impresses Ramani with her skilful and compassionate handling of an assault victim, raising hopes that she might eventually be reinstated, while lovestruck Cameron whisks Kerry off by limo for a luxury weekend break at a five-star hotel

Nick is taken to a safe house prior to testifying against Dennis Weaver, but has a violent confrontation with Phil, who maliciously suggests his heroin overdose may not have been wholly involuntary. Polly's house is burgled and she wonders if her night of passion with journalist Frank Fisher was such a good idea when he is named as a prime suspect

The feud between Phil and Dennis Weaver comes to a head when the latter tries to throttle his enemy, demanding the address of Nick's safe house. Will Phil stay loyal to his colleague or aid and abet a crook? Polly is devastated to find her life story splashed across the front pages of a national newspaper and Kerry feels guilty after her night of passion with Smithy. Last but not least - they've discovered a mutual love of Tears for Fears, she's knitted him a scarf and now Sun Hill misfits Marilyn and Reg take their relationship to the next logical level - an afternoon trainspotting. Could this be the start of something big?
