After a night in the cells, Sam decides to tell the police about Eli running the drugs operation. Lily confesses her involvement to Edna and is also arrested following a house raid. Mel confides in Jack about her marriage.

As Sarah's wedding gets under way, a disillusioned David drives his car into the canal, and the police interrupt the ceremony to tell Gail the bad news. Elsewhere, Paul shares a kiss with Leanne.

The headmaster of a local school is murdered, his body found pinned to the wall in the manner of his own butterfly collection. The dead man was a member of a mysterious international club for geniuses, which are currently testing the school's pupils for possible new recruits. Barnaby and Winter investigate the secretive organisation, which has proven controversial in the local area, but also uncover the possibility of a connection between the killing and the impact of pesticides on a rare species of butterfly

Merton and Walker investigate a security van raid in Ashfordly and are convinced there is a link to a recent robbery at a local airfield, but a senior officer visiting from Middlesbrough dismisses their claims. Vernon takes a sudden interest in the flower show when he discovers David might be the owner of a rare, potentially prize-winning fuchsia and turns to Blaketon and Ventress for help when the plant suddenly disappears

Colonel and Joan Maltravers host a dinner party to celebrate their son's return from Kenya but the meal is disrupted by an armed robbery. David gives chase to the thief and becomes a local hero - much to the exasperation of Bernie. Liz has a difficult decision to make after receiving an exciting offer from Ben. Sam gets a visit from social services and is told he could lose his son if he doesn't accept help. Donna defends her actions and Edna discovers Pearl has taken Lily to the airport.

Lisa and Zak are told they may have to apply for custody of Samson to stop him being taken into care. Donna arrests Val when an argument about smoking in the pub spirals out of control.

Gossip is rife about the wedding day fiasco as the Platts try to come to terms with the dramatic events. Vernon gives Liz a birthday surprise and Paul reveals his feelings to Leanne.

A comic convention is held in Carver Valley, but the event gets off to a sinister start when the latest creation of a mysterious writer is stolen from the organiser's house and burned. Barnaby takes up the case, which turns murderous when a former supermodel is killed during the event. The only clue is an unusual issue of the missing comics, which seems to reveal the dark secrets of six local people - and provides the police with six likely suspects.
