Carlos Alcaraz began the defence of his title last year on Centre Court with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7, 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Fabio Fognini. Over on Court No. 1, top women's seed Aryna Sabalenka claimed a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Carson Branstine, before João Fonseca also prevailed in straight sets against British hope Jacob Fearnley. However, there was success for a home favourite elsewhere, with Sonay Kartal triumphing 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 against 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko

Group C winner v Group F runner-up (Kick-off 6.00pm). Coverage of the round-of-32 match at Houston Stadium in the USA. Who tops Group C will have been decided by goal difference should Brazil and Morocco have defeated Scotland and Haiti respectively. It was the same situation in Group F with Netherlands looking for a win against Tunisia and Japan taking on a Sweden side that had won 5-1 against the Tunisians, but lost to the Dutch by the same scoreline
