The Murder Detective

Observational documentary telling the inside story of the seven-year-long mission to find out who murdered journalist Lyra McKee in Derry in 2019 and secure justice for her family. What begins as a murder investigation becomes a seven-year-long mission to identify those responsible, secure justice for Lyra's family, and take on the organisation that claimed responsibility for her death: the New IRA. Senior Investigating Officer Jason Murphy and his team begin the hunt for a masked gunman who seems to have disappeared without trace. With the murder weapon missing and not one of the 150 people on the street when Lyra was killed willing to come forward, detectives must painstakingly uncover the truth of what happened for themselves. Lyra's sister Nichola struggles with the devastating loss. As detectives uncover new evidence, the search for a single gunman grows into something much bigger, drawing Murphy towards investigating the leadership of the New IRA
